When is The Studio open? We do not hold regular hours. We open approximately 20-30mins before a scheduled class and will lock the doors 1min before the class start time. The best time to pop in to the studio is directly AFTER a scheduled class. The best way to reach us is firstname.lastname@example.org
Can I drop-in to a class? We recommend that you register for your classes ahead of time from the Studio Schedule page of the website. If you want to take your chances, you are always welcome to drop-in. We'd love to see you!
Do I have to register for any classes? We offer pre-registered classes that run once a week for 8 weeks. We ask that you please register online in advance for these sessions. You can also save yourself a spot for any of the drop-in classes listed on the schedule.
How much are drop-in classes? $15 to drop-in. Purchase online or in person at the studio.
I've never practiced yoga... Which class is best for beginners? The best classes for beginners are Hatha and Therapeutic Yoga. If you are suffering from injury, have physical limitations, or cannot get up and down from the floor easily, the best option for you is a private lesson with one of our certified and experienced instructors. If you are somewhat physically active and have no substantial limitations, any "Vinyasa" class is also perfect for yoga beginners (you must be comfortable getting up and down from the floor, kneeling, weight bearing on the wrists, and lying on the stomach).
I'm not very flexible... Can I practice yoga? Yes! There is no measure of being "good" or "bad" at practicing yoga. You do what feels best for you and move the way your body needs it. The instructor will always have an alternative if you cannot physically practice certain postures. That being said, most classes on the schedule require you to be able to sit, stand, kneel, and recline comfortably on your yoga mat. We have props available to use as well.
I don't have a yoga mat, do you have any at the studio to borrow? Yes, we have a few gently used mats for your free use. It's best to bring your own mat if you have one.
How big are classes? The main studio can hold up to 16 students in class. The average class size is 6-10 people. If you are the only one to show up for a drop-in class - expect a private lesson! We have NO minimum for drop-in classes to run.
What should I wear? We suggest wearing light, form-fitting, and breathable clothing. Power Yoga gets heated and sweaty, Hatha yoga may get cool and relaxing - dress appropriately!
I have a condition (physical/emotional/mental)... Can I practice yoga? As long as your physician has provided approval for exercise, you are welcome to practice yoga. Please inform your instructor BEFORE class if you have any contraindications that may affect your yoga practice. Certain classes may or may not be suitable for your condition - it is always best to chat with your instructor and ask how we can help make your yoga practice more comfortable.
Is yoga religious/spiritual? Yoga is an ancient practice of cleansing the entire bodily system from the inside out through physical postures, breath work, mindfulness, and meditation. At Zen, we do not hold any particular belief system that is practiced in public classes. All are welcome in class!
